Chapter One

We Are Women of Faith

God has prepared everybody and everything we need to carry out his will for our lives. To each of us, he gives the particular talents he wants us to have, and he plants us in one another's paths to assist in accomplishing what he wants us to. -Thelma Wells, God Will Make a Way

Video Highlights

1. As Patsy shared her story, what were you thinking about?

2. Mary Graham talked about all of us being women of faith. What are some adjectives we might use to describe a woman of faith?

3. The title for this course is Capture the Joy . How is joy different from happiness? What are some words we might associate with joy?

Bible Application

Read Proverbs 31:10-31. The woman described in this passage is a composite portrait of ideal womanhood, not a model for us to imitate in every way. After all, we don't need to have any more pressure on us to be "Super Women"! In addition, notice how this woman's physical appearance is never mentioned. Instead, her attractiveness comes from her character. What a contrast to our society, which believes physical appearance is all-important.

1. What qualities does this woman possess?

2. How do we become more like the woman described in this passage rather than what the world around us (particularly the media) is trying to tell us we should be?

3. What character qualities do you already possess that are described in this passage?

4. What one character quality would you like to strengthen as we work through this course?

Women of Faith

We are women, women of faith, United in God's love, sisters in grace. Looking to Jesus to lead us each day, We are women, women of faith.

We are bound in love for one another, We share faith in God and we're committed to each other. We are sisters in Christ Jesus desiring to serve, Leaning on God's promises, standing on His Word.

We will glorify the King of Kings. We will glorify the Lamb. We will glorify the Lord of Lords, Who is the great I Am.

We are women, women of faith, United in God's love, sisters in grace. Looking to Jesus to lead us each day, We are women, women of faith. -Jamie Harvill and Steve Arterburn

Sharing Our Stories

1. Why did you decide to become a part of this group? What are you hoping to gain from this experience?

2. Who are some of the women of faith we look up to who have gone before us-in the 1900s, in the 1990s, in our community, in our church?

3. What attributes do these women have that make us look to them as our role models?

4. Look back at the words to the song "Women of Faith" (on page 12). Are there any phrases that are particularly meaningful to you?

5. What makes you a woman of faith?
